Valmet signs its first Performance Agreement within the 2G bioethanol segment with Meliora Bio ApS in Denmark

Valmet recently signed its first Performance Agreement within the second-generation bioethanol segment, with Meliora Bio ApS in Kalundborg, Denmark. The scope of the agreement includes services to support the customer during operations and maintenance shutdowns and covers the reactor feeding and discharge of Meliora Bio’s bioethanol and C-5 sugar production.

Details about Valmet’s delivery
Valmet’s agreement covers the equipment for reactor feeding and discharge of Meliora Bio’s second-generation bioethanol and C-5 sugar production. Services such as process evaluations, connectivity, Valmet Performance Center for active expert support, condition assessment of mechanical equipment, spare part recommendations, safety stock, and training are also included. The agreement extends to 2025, with an option to be further extended. The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the third quarter 2022. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Information about Meliora Bio ApS
Meliora Bio is a modern state-of-the-art biorefinery, that uses upcycled wheat straw for the production of bioethanol, prebiotics, and lignin. The refinery was built in 2009, and since 2020 it has been a part of Karsten Ree Holding. After years of inactivity, the plant is being brought back to life to produce advanced, second-generation bioethanol and innovative food ingredients. Meliora Bio is aiming for the lowest possible CO2 footprint with minimum use of energy and water, whilst reducing production waste to zero. The company is located in Kalundborg, Denmark, and employs around 35 people.
