Successful start-up for the fiberline upgrade at Obbola mill in Sweden
Oct 5, 2021
The SCA Obbola pulp mill’s upgraded fiberline, was started up in September 2021, according to plan. Valmet’s delivery is part of SCA’s investment project to increase the annual production of Kraftliner in the Obbola mill from the current 450,000 tonnes to 725,000 tonnes per year. With this investment, SCA Obbola will meet the increased demand for sustainable packaging.
“The upgrade of the existing fiberline went smoothly and the startup was on time. The test run was signed off on 17th of September 2021. We’re now in the last stage of fine-tuning and optimizing. The production will then gradually increase towards the new optimal production capacity”, says Pontus Rosén, Process Engineer, Fiber Processing Business Unit, Valmet.
About the fiberline upgrade
The fiberline upgrade includes a new hot stock refining after the digester, using Conflo refiners. The brown stock washing was improved by adding a new TwinRoll press as the last washing stage before the storage towers for the paper machine. As a result of the fiberline upgrade, the daily capacity will increase from today’s 850 to 1,100 air dry tons. The capacity increase is done with improved washing with the same water consumption.
