Valmet rebuilds Madison Paper PM 3

Madison Paper Industries of Madison, Maine, has selected Valmet to supply the technology for the rebuild of their no. 3 paper machine. The Madison order will concentrate on the modernization of the machine's wet end. The rebuilt machine will come on stream in the second quarter of 2001. The total value of the Madison mill capital investment program is USD 52 million.
The target of the rebuild is to establish market leadership in terms of SC-A paper quality, and also to increase production capacity. Madison PM 3 was originally supplied by Valmet and produces Symmetry© brand supercalandered paper.
The Valmet delivery is composed of pulpers for stock preparation, a new dilution controlled OptiFlo headbox, OptiFormer and SymPress B press section and a machine ventilation system. Neles Automation delivers Sensodec condition and runnability monitoring system, and an upgrade of the Damatic XDi machine controls.
In recent years, Valmet has supplied Madison Paper with several papermaking and finishing technology upgrades, among them an OptiReel and supercalender modernizations.
Madison's Symmetry, a high-quality, uncoated, supercalendered paper is renowned in the North American marketplace for its superior runnability and printability in high-speed web offset and rotogravure printing applications.
