For the second year in a row SP Newsprint, Dublin, Georgia, has set the record as the world's most productive newsprint machine by producing 1107 kg/cm/day during 2003.
SP Newsprint was recognized for this accomplishment during the Metso Technology Seminar held in Atlanta during Paper Summit 2004, the first week of May.
Mr. Jukka Tiitinen, new area president for Metso Paper North America, along with J-P Beudoin, Senior VP, Sales, Paper Business Lines, presented the award to Mr. Jack Carter, Mill Manager, SP Newsprint. In his remarks Jukka compared the achievement to hockey by saying that "it is difficult to win the Stanley Cup once, but extremely difficult to win it two years in a row."
Mr. Carter thanked the mill's employees, many of whom were in the audience, for making the record possible. He also thanked Metso for its help and support.
PM2, a Valmet machine originally installed in 1988, has been kept efficient through an ongoing program of rebuilds and improvements.
