On September 7–8, 1999, the Valmet-supplied PM-4 LWC paper machine at UPM-Kymmene, exceeded its world speed record by establishing a new record speed of 1670 m/min (100 km/h).
PM 4 has a width of 10,100 mm and a design speed of 1800 m/min. The wet end consists of a SymFlo headbox, SpeedFormer and a SymPress B press section known for good runnability.
PM 4’s speed development has been remarkable since its startup on January 7, 1998. During the record run the PM 4 crew cited the excellent performance of the new Valmet FoilForce 1 tail threading system on the OptiReel.
