Sappi Lanaken NV, Belgium, has selected Metso Paper to increase the BCTMP (bleached chemithermomechanical pulp) production capacity of the Lanaken Mill by approx. 40,000 t/a. Metso Paper's delivery includes the main process technology, basic engineering, erection supervision, start-up supervision and training. The raw material for the BCTMP line will be aspen and spruce chips and the pulp will be used for coated fine papers. The start-up of the rebuilt line is scheduled for June 2003.
Sappi Lanaken NV is among the leading manufacturers of coated fine papers in Europe. The Lanaken Mill has utilized Metso Paper's process technology for BCTMP production since 1987, which makes them one of the first companies to introduce BCTMP pulp in high-quality coated printing grade papers.
