Hankuk Paper has started up successfully OptiConcept fine paper line in Onsan, South Korea

The project teams of Hankuk and Metso comprised Mr. Park, erection manager of Hankuk Paper; Jussi Kairus, project manager of Metso Paper; Mr. Han, project manager of Hankuk Paper; Johan Auervuolle, site manager of Metso Paper; Mr. Soe, Hankuk mill manager; Mr. Tommi Reinikka, automation manager of Metso Paper; Mr. Kim, production manager of Hankuk Paper; and Tauno Ristola, main start-up engineer of Metso Paper.
Hankuk Paper Mfg. Co., Ltd. has started up successfully its fourth fine paper making line in its Onsan mill in South Korea. "The start-up went according to plans, and first reels of paper were produced on December 13, 2005," explains Mr. Kim, Production Manager of PM 4. " We are very pleased of the good cooperation between the Hankuk Paper and Metso Paper start-up teams and specialists. Hankuk Paper's new OptiConcept paper production line is a complete single-supplier delivery by Metso Paper. The line features the most advanced fine paper making technology from headbox to reel. It comprises, for example, an OptiPress I press section, with new technology for single nip solutions, and a metsoDNA machine control system supplied by Metso Automation. The new line, which produces woodfree copy and printing papers, has a web width of 5.2 m at the reel and a design speed of 1,200 m/min. The capacity of the line will amount to 200,000 tonnes annually.
Hankuk Paper Mfg. Co., Ltd. is the leading paper producer in Korea. Since its founding in 1958, the company has been a pioneer in the Korean paper industry, employing advanced technology to produce a variety of woodfree printing and writing papers. After the start-up of the PM 4 paper making line, the company has a total capacity of 520,000 tonnes of fine paper annually. The new PM 4 is Metso Paper's third production line delivery to the company's Onsan mill.
