First on-machine OptiCoater successfully started up

The two station on- machine OptiCoater at UPM-Kymmene's Voikkaa Mill in Finland has succesfully started up in schedule in March 1999. The PM 18 produces high quality SaimaCote- LWC paper with final end product basis weight from 60 up to 80g/m2. The design speed of the coater is 1800 m/min, 5906 fpm and production capacity 255.000 tons/y.
Valmet's OptiCoater is a new generation coater concept. This was the first OptiCoater ever delivered and represents newest coating technology such as new philosophies of web handling, drying, coating color application, coating color preparation, reeling and coating control. Today Valmet has received 5 OptiCoater orders for various paper grades in Europe, North America and Asia.
This OptiCoater is equipped with the new OptiCoat Jet Plus coating stations with highly sophisticated coating color feeding and application systems.
OptiReel Plus reel which represents the sharpest edge in today's new generation reel technology is a vital part of this coater. This was the first Optireel Plus start-up. Valmet has today sold 9 OptiReel Plus reels for various paper grades all over the world.
