Metso to supply biomass boiler plant to Porvoon Energia in Finland

Metso will supply Porvoon Energia with a biomass boiler plant for combined heat and power production (CHP) in the township of Tolkkinen, Finland. The boiler plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The value of the order is below EUR 15 million and the order is included in Energy and Environmental Technology’s Q4, 2010 orders received. The plant is scheduled to be ready during Q1, 2013.

The biomass boiler plant will utilize bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) technology and will use combination of wood chips, bark and saw dust as the main fuel source. The plant will produce 38 MW of district heat to Porvoo area and 12 MW of electricity for the national grid.

The parent company of Porvoon Energia, Porvoon Energia Oy, is a company owned by the city of Porvoo. The company strives to use the broadest possible range of biomass based fuels for its electricity and heat generation. Already, the company produces about 70 % of its electricity in green power. The new power plant will be built on the same site with the current power plant from the year 1979.
