Metso to supply automation technology to improve boiler combustion control at Eesti Energia's plant in Narva, Estonia
Nitrogen oxides emissions are minimized to meet the tightening EU norms
"We selected Metso's automation solution for the Narva nitrogen oxides reduction project based on a bidding process where Metso's expertise and wide experience led to their advantage. Also our earlier cooperation with Metso has been successful, and the previous deliveries have fulfilled our expectations regarding product reliability and operability," says Kari Lahti, Head of Performance Services, Power Solutions, Fortum.
Blocks 3, 4, 5 and 6 at the Narva plant all have two boilers fueled by oil shale with a total electrical capacity of approximately 800 megawatts. Metso's combustion control solutions will replace the existing outdated control technology for the boilers. Metso's delivery scope will include dismantling and field engineering, motor control cabinets, redundant process stationsand operating stations. Blocks 3, 4, and 6, as well as the peak boiler house, run with the Metso DNA automation system. The plant has service agreements with Metso to support these systems and provide regular upgrades to them.
The order is included in the 2014 first quarter orders received by Metso. The deliveries will take place later in 2014 and 2015.
Fortum and Metso have a long track record of developing demanding special applications in cooperation to match the needs of power producers. Metso's technologies are used at numerous Fortum plants in Finland and Estonia.
