The World Environment Day calls us to join the global effort to tackle plastic pollution. Here are some examples of new solutions for recycling and replacing plastics Valmet and its Beyond Circularity ecosystem are innovating and developing:

The novel molded fiber products from wood fiber to replace plastic

The joint venture between Valmet and Metsä Group’s innovation company Metsä Spring creates sustainable solutions for the world’s packaging needs. Valmet 3D Fiber technology enables the pulp to be directly pressed into three-dimensional forms and to be shaped into biodegradable and recyclable products such as plates and other food packaging. The official inauguration of 3D fiber product pilot plant was in Äänekoski, Finland, on August 22, 2022.

New solutions for chemical recycling of plastics to enable circularity in the petrochemical industry

Valmet participates in the UrbanMill co-innovation project, a two-year project funded by Business Finland and coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in cooperation with Aalto University. The project focuses on creating novel concepts by combining tailored pre- and post-treatment technologies with pyrolysis. It brings together companies from different parts of the plastic recycling value chain, and in addition to Valmet’s Beyond Circularity, it’s also closely linked to Borealis SPIRIT “Veturi” ecosystem.
