Improved technology and service enhances operational stability of the winder

The winder with a width of 6800mm and a speed of 2300 meters per minute has been in operation for 13 years since its commissioning in 2011. Recently, the customer noticed unstable tension in the winder, leading to issues such as paper breaks, bottom folds, continuous rolls, and uneven end faces of finished rolls. This led to reduced machine speed. The customer tried various solutions, including replacing segmented rollers, adjusting the position and size of segmented rollers, and modifying the tension control method, but the problems persisted and even worsened. After a comprehensive evaluation, the customer decided to seek help from Valmet’s on-site service team.

Valmet’s Customized Solution

Understanding the customer’s urgent needs, Valmet quickly responded by organizing multiple on-site inspections by expert teams. Valmet proposed a tailored solution, including the replacement of some mechanical parts of the rewinder, measurement and adjustment of key parts, recalibration of the unwinding station and guide rollers, and optimization of operating parameters. This ensured time and labor savings for the customer, achieving high efficiency, high quality, and low-cost production.

Valmet’s field services is characterized by its flexibility, speed, and efficiency, which allows for higher machine availability and lower maintenance cost. A solution which initially was planned to require five days of downtime was adjusted to match the customer’s production schedule, completing the task in just three days while ensuring quality. The paper test run was successful on the first attempt, resolving issues such as bottom folds, uneven end faces, and tension problems, and increasing the machine speed from 1900m/min to 2200m/min, exceeding the customer’s expectations.
