Natron Hayat’s Maglaj mill is a fully integrated unbleached pulp and paper mill in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Established in 1956, the mill produces sack kraft and machine glazed paper for packaging industry.

The Maglaj mill has always strived towards its vision of becoming a globally recognized paper manufacturer with high quality products. To do so, it has consistently invested in improvements to its production line and facilities.

Valmet’s solution meets the customer needs

One of the latest improvements was the installation of Valmet Chip Level Indicator for their digester.

Despite having a chip level measuring equipment installed and in use, we faced unstable and unreliable chip level measuring leading to unsatisfactory digester performance. After discussing the issue with Valmet’s specialists, we decided to replace our existing system with Valmet’s solution – and have been very pleased with that decision,” says Armina Camic, Chief of Pulp Production at Natron Hayat’s Maglaj mill.

Valmet Chip Level Indicator consists of a mechanical sensor placed inside the digester and an external electronic device for signal evaluation and transmission. It provides reliable chip level measurement without disruption-prone parts. It’s also fully accessible– meaning easy maintenance and calibration – during normal operation.

”Reliable and stable chip level measurement is very important for good cooking results in continuous digesters. We’ve had the Valmet Chip Level Indicator in operation for over a year now, and we are completely satisfied with its performance,” says Mirko Stanic, Executive Director for Technical and Technological Operations at Maglaj mill.

Reliable control of the chip level in continuous digesters and impregnation vessels is crucial for good cooking results. A stable chip level leads to stable retention time, which helps in maintaining uniform conditions in the cooking process. Accurate information about the level is needed regardless of the way the levels are controlled: by adjusting the outlet device speed, the blow flow, the impregnation vessel sluice flow, the chip feeding rate or by any other means.

Valmet Chip Level Indicator is a proven solution that can be installed in any type of digester, ImpBin and impregnation vessel. Up to date, Valmet has delivered over 400 units worldwide.
