Compliance status

Valmet.com website is partially compliant with the accessibility requirements. The accessibility issues that have been identified are listed below.

Accessibility improvements

The following issues have been detected on the site in relation to the accessibility requirements:

Media

  • Images, icons, and videos are missing proper text alternatives. (WCAG 1.1.1, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.2.3, 1.2.5, 1.3.1)

  • Text alternatives for image links are insufficient. (WCAG 2.4.4)

  • The control buttons of the video player lack accessible names. (WCAG 4.1.2)

  • Embedded Spotify iframes do not have accessible names. (WCAG 4.1.2)

  • Videos on the front page and campaign pages cannot be paused. (WCAG 2.2.2)

Structure and semantics

  • Element markup does not support assistive technology use, and users do not receive information about the states of interactive elements, such as buttons. Heading structure is used for visual reasons, and not all headings are marked as such. (WCAG 1.3.1)

  • Table headings are insufficient or used incorrectly. Table structures are used for non-tabular content. (WCAG 1.3.1)

  • The landmark attribute is used incorrectly. (WCAG 4.1.2)

  • Accordion components have accessibility deficiencies. (WCAG 4.1.2)

  • Opening the map does not convey information to assistive technologies. (WCAG 4.1.2)

  • ARIA attributes are used incorrectly. (WCAG 4.1.2)

Sensory characteristics

The location of a link is described using only sensory cues on the page https://www.valmet.com/media/events-calendar/valmet-chip-quality-seminar/. (WCAG 1.3.3)

Use of color

Links are not visually distinguishable from surrounding text. (WCAG 1.4.1)

Contrast

Insufficient contrast throughout the site, especially in green and gray tones. Focus indicators are not clearly visible due to low contrast. Texts or buttons on top of images do not stand out sufficiently. (WCAG 1.4.3)

Readability

When enlarging text, some text becomes difficult to read due to narrow element widths. Some texts overlap, and not all text sizes can be adjusted. (WCAG 1.4.4, 1.4.11)

Keyboard use

  • Not all main menu items or breadcrumb links are accessible by keyboard. Menus cannot be closed with the keyboard. (WCAG 2.1.1)
  • The “Clear filters” button in the search element is not operable with the keyboard. It's not possible to choose a contact method in the contact form using a keyboard, and not all form elements are accessible. The Extelio feedback form cannot be closed with the keyboard. (WCAG 2.1.1)
  • Not all graphs are reachable with the keyboard. (WCAG 2.1.1)
  • The feedback form cannot be closed using a keyboard. Focus can move behind the feedback element, making it unclear where the user is. (WCAG 2.1.2, 2.4.7)
  • The focus order in the main menu is not logical. Similar issues occur on the Valmet locations page and in social media lists. (WCAG 2.4.3) Visible focus is missing in the filter list on the search results page. Pagination and main menu focus styles are unclear. Focus indicators inside carousels are hard to see. (WCAG 2.4.7)
  • Menus and the search field cannot be closed with the keyboard, and focus moves behind the open elements. (WCAG 2.4.7, 2.4.11)

Bypassing blocks

There is no skip link available for bypassing repeated blocks on the site. (WCAG 2.4.1)

Link purpose

  • Some elements appear as links but are not actually links. (WCAG 2.4.4)
  • Some links do not provide enough context, especially in carousels. Logo links do not clearly describe the link destination. (WCAG 2.4.4)
  • Social media links have duplicate text that does not describe the destination. (WCAG 2.4.4)
  • Identical link text is used for different destinations. (WCAG 3.2.4)

Forms

  • Error messages are not conveyed to assistive technologies. Required fields are not programmatically or visually indicated. Error messages are not tied to specific fields. (WCAG 3.3.1, 3.3.2, 3.3.3)
  • Forms embedded with iframes do not have accessible names. (WCAG 4.1.2)
  • CAPTCHA is not accessible. (WCAG 4.1.2)
  • Not all form fields have labels.(WCAG 4.1.2)

Language

Some pages do not have language information defined. (WCAG 3.1.1)

Problematic components

The following components present multiple accessibility issues and are difficult to use. Keyboard access is partially or fully blocked, and assistive technology users are not informed about the elements, their states, or any changes.
