Quality defects due to CD profile issues, e.g. variation of coat weight profile, result in lower material efficiency and higher costs per ton. New opportunities to improve coating process overall performance are created with online measurement of the blade or applicator roll profile and loading conditions, by using iRoll system with coater backing roll, e.g. Valmet Coater Roll Cover CC with iRoll sensor inside.

iRoll Coater helps to improve paper quality by uniform coating application with online measurement of blade loading profile. This helps to avoid skew beam loading as it is possible to adjust equal force of actuators on both sides. Straightness of beam and temperature compensation of beam bending can be monitored during different production conditions. In the coating stations that have manually adjustable profiling spindles, it is possible to get an optimal profiling as the blade loading can be seen online while doing the adjustments.
