Kuopion Energia Oy uses Valmet solution to produce bioenergy with low corrosion risk
Aug 25, 2015
Kuopio Energia produces district heat for the residents of the city of Kuopio in Finland and in winter times the production reliability is in high priority. Haapaniemi 3 power plant with Valmet boiler started up at 2011 and in the summer of 2013 they took Valmet Superheater KCl Corrosion Management solution in to use.
The solution gives the possibility to use more biomass fuels
With the lower price of the wood compared to peat, they wanted to produce summer production with only bio based fuels and also to increase biofuel ratio in the yearly production. Kuopion Energia Oy therefore chose Valmet’s new solution to enable usage of more bio based fuel without increasing the possibility of superheater corrosion in its biomass fuel firing boiler at Haapaniemi 3 power plant.
Fuel costs savings and superheater lifetime extension
Valmet’s solution provided tools to control the risk of alkali chloride induced superheater corrosion. It was also a way to save in fuel costs by allowing the use of cheaper fuels without risking the superheaters condition or compromising its availability. The solution also gave them real time estimate of the remaining lifetime of their superheaters.
