Steam profiler generates energy savings at Smurfit Kappa Nettingsdorf
Oct 25, 2017
Smurfit Kappa Nettingsdorf is one of the leading producers for Kraftliner in Europe. Their PM6 has a capacity of up to 450,000 ton/year. Energy efficiency is a key element in their management system in order to improve operational costs and reduced environmental impact. An existing steambox was found to work inefficient, and after careful evaluation of the current process parameters and assessment of improvement potential, Nettingsdorf decided to replace this steambox by state of the art Valmet IQ Steam Profiler. Target was to achieve a significant decrease in specific steam consumption for the paper machine.
Summary
Location | Ansfelden, Austria |
Challenge |
An existing steambox, installed in 1984 was found to work inefficient in terms of dryness increase and moisture profile improvement. Target was to achieve a significant decrease in specific steam consumption in the PM |
Solution |
Valmet IQ Steam Profiler installed in the press section to heat the paper web before the following press nips |
Results |
PM6 overall steam savings 2% Speed increase potential for the dryer limited grades Water flow to moisturizer in the drying section could be reduced by more than 50%, because of effective moisture profile improvement with IQ Steam Profiler No dripping or condensate spilling |
