Pratt Industries' Valmet-supplied containerboard machine, PM 16, successfully came on stream on October 04, 2015 at the company's greenfield paper mill in Valparaiso, Indiana, USA. This is Valmet's first OptiConcept M paper machine installation in North America.
PM 16 is one of the industry's most efficient paper mill, employing 120 people to make 370,000 tons a year - twice the productivity of many competitor mills. It is the world's most environmentally-friendly paper mill and a showcase for the latest in 21st century paper-making technology.

Solution
OptiConcept M is a modular way to design, build and operate a paper machine. Its modular approach enables short delivery times, quick start-up and low project costs. OptiConcept M is also designed to use less water, electricity and raw materials.
Results
The startup was exceptional. The mill could produce 438 tons at startup and by the official opening was producing at a rate of 920 tons/day—more than 90 percent of capacity. It was, Mill Manager Jay Hennessey says, the best startup in Pratt’s history by far. (source: Paper360º July/August 2016)
