Cartones Ponderosa strengthens its competitive advantage
Nov 18, 2016
Mexico’s leading producer of coated folding boxboard invested in Valmet's curtain coating and air impingement drying technology to improve coated board quality, lower costs and boost productivity. Prior to the investment, they tested the technologies and different coating recipes at Valmet Paper Technology center. The coating recipes developed in pilot plant were reproduced successfully with the production machine.
SUMMARY
Location | Cartones Ponderosa San Juan del Río mill in Mexico |
Customer challenge | Better printing properties that require smoother surfaces. Need to increase in machine speed and lower the operating cost. |
Grade |
Folding boxboard 235 - 490 g/m2 Food and pharmaceutical use |
Solution |
Pilot trials at Valmet Paper Technology Center prior investment decision. Rebuild of the board machine with Curtain coating and air impingement drying technology. |
Results |
Valmet’s solution was a complete one that required only a very short downtime for implementation. The quality of the new coating was good from the start, and optimum quality was achieved after just eight hours of operation of the new curtain coater. A very uniform coating is obtained resulting in increased opacity and better coating smoothness. Applied coating color has been reduced from 36 g/m² to 32 g/m². |
