Valmet sets targets for environmental efficiency 2030
Sep 29, 2017
As a part of its Sustainability360º agenda action plan for 2016–2018 Valmet renews its environmental objectives and targets covering its own operations. The new objectives for environmental efficiency are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG).
Valmet continues with its focus on energy, water and CO2 reduction and sets targets spanning to year 2030 to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance in the long term. As a new addition to the environmental efficiency program Valmet has now set 2030 targets for the scope of ISO 14001 system certification, reduction of waste to landfill and increasing the use of renewable energy.
"We have steadily progressed towards our 2020 environmental targets in our own operations. To further support our Sustainability360º agenda we now renewed the objectives of the program as well as established targets to 2030," explains Victoria Larsson, Valmet’s HSE Manager.
The new targets are in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for responsible consumption and production, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy and climate action. The CO2 emission reduction targets are also set in line with climate science.
Driving Valmet’s environmental performance forward
As stated in Valmet’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policy, Valmet designs and operates its facilities to promote the sustainable use of resources and prevent pollution. To fulfill its HSE Policy, Valmet continuously improves its HSE processes, practices and performance.
Since 2009 Valmet has followed an operational efficiency program with energy and CO2 reduction targets to 2015 and 2020. In 2012 targets for waste reductions and water savings were also added to the program.
"In Valmet, we are committed to protecting the environment and always operating within our local environmental regulations and permits," Larsson explains. "By setting relevant objectives and challenging targets we drive our environmental performance forward and make our contribution to global resource efficiency."
Sustainability is at the core of Valmet's business strategy and operations. Valmet’s values, Code of Conduct and related policies, and selected globally acknowledged initiatives and principles create the foundation for sustainable performance at Valmet. Health, safety and environment (HSE) is one of the five focus areas of Valmet's 'Sustainability360º' agenda. This agenda takes a comprehensive approach to sustainability at Valmet and the other core areas are: sustainable supply chain; people and performance; sustainable solutions, and corporate citizenship.
The new targets are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
